Chili Charlie’s was established in 1992, by Jaime “Hiyme” De La Torre and Jay Lewis. While out on one of their adventures, they stumbled upon “Lutz Casino” in downtown Yuma, AZ. They instantly feel in love with the warm atmosphere, in which inspired them to create Chili Charlie’s. Where did the name derive from you ask? Both of them always loved the name Charlie’s, for the American side, and Chili for the Mexican flare, thus becoming “Chili Charlie’s”. They sat down and created original Mexican-American recipes for casual fun filled family dining experience.
Jaime De La Torre was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico, and the state not only known for baring such wonderful people, but also known for creating “TEQUILA.” Jaime moved to Lake Havasu City 28 yrs ago. Lake Havasu has been such a wonderful town to him, many friends and memories made here. Jaime has been in the restaurant industry for 30 years. He has been creating amazing dishes such as the “Carne Asada Tacos” or the “Cheeseburgers’”. He will be adding more mouth watering items to the menu soon.
In August 2008, Chili Charlie’s closed its doors to catch her breath, but not for long. On September 10 th 2009, Chili Charlie’s Cantinas, new owners Al & Dana Martino reopened after 8 months of revitalization and who was there to step back in his shoes…Jaime De La Torre! Chili Charlie’s Cantina now boasts an arcade, 2 pool tables, 6 FLAT Screen TV’s, top of the line projection screen, and amazing sound system that will make you feel like you’re at the game!
